How to Convert HEIC to JPG on Mac (One File or Hundreds)
iPhone photos are saved as HEIC, a format that is small and sharp but that many websites, forms and older apps refuse. Here are three ways to turn HEIC into JPG on a Mac, from a single photo to a whole folder.
Method 1: Preview (one or a few photos)
- Open the photoDouble-click the HEIC file. It opens in Preview.
- ExportChoose File > Export.
- Pick JPEGSet Format to JPEG and adjust the Quality slider. Higher quality means a bigger file.
- SaveChoose a name and folder and click Save. The original HEIC stays untouched.
For several photos, open them all in Preview, select the thumbnails in the sidebar (⌘A) and use File > Export Selected Images.
Method 2: Finder Quick Action
Right-click one or more images in Finder, choose Quick Actions > Convert Image and pick the format and size. It is fast for small batches and needs no extra app.
Method 3: A batch converter for big jobs
When you have hundreds of photos, or you also need PNG, WebP or AVIF, a dedicated converter saves time. Simple Archive Converter handles images (PNG, JPG, HEIC, WebP, AVIF and more) in bulk, entirely on your Mac.
- Drop your filesDrag the HEIC photos (or the whole folder) into the window.
- Choose the output formatSelect JPG, or PNG, WebP or AVIF if you need one of those.
- ConvertStart the conversion and get the whole batch at once. Nothing is uploaded.
JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF?
- JPG: works everywhere. Choose it for forms, emails and social media.
- PNG: lossless and supports transparency. Larger files.
- WebP / AVIF: smaller files for websites; AVIF is smallest but not accepted everywhere yet.
FAQ
Why won’t my HEIC photo upload?
Many sites only accept JPG or PNG. Convert it to JPG first.
Does converting lose quality?
JPG is lossy, but at high quality the difference is hard to see. Your original HEIC is not changed.
Can I convert many photos at once for free?
Finder Quick Actions and Preview can do small batches for free. For large batches, Simple Archive Converter converts them in bulk on your Mac.
Are my photos uploaded?
Not with Preview, Finder or Simple Archive Converter. Everything runs on your Mac.
